Terms of Use
Last updated: August 4, 2026
Please read this carefully. By using this website, submitting a form, sending us an email, calling our office, or otherwise communicating with Karb Law, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use this website or send us information.
1. No legal advice
All content on this website — including practice-area pages, blog articles, FAQs, tables, checklists and downloadable material — is provided for general information purposes only. It is not legal advice, is not a substitute for legal advice, and must not be relied on as legal advice.
The same applies to information given in any other channel before you become a client, including:
- replies to enquiry, contact or consultation forms;
- email, text message, WhatsApp or social-media correspondence;
- telephone conversations, including preliminary calls with our office;
- the results or comments provided through our free assessment;
- any initial or informal discussion of your situation.
Every immigration and legal matter turns on its own facts. General information that is correct for one person may be wrong, incomplete or harmful for another. Do not act, or refrain from acting, on the basis of anything on this website or in any preliminary communication without obtaining advice about your specific circumstances under a signed retainer.
2. No paralegal–client relationship until a retainer is signed
No paralegal–client relationship is created by any of the following: visiting this website; reading our content; submitting a form; sending or receiving an email; speaking with us by telephone; attending a preliminary or free consultation; or receiving a fee quote.
A professional relationship with Karb Law arises only when all of the following have occurred:
- we have confirmed in writing that we are able and willing to act for you;
- we have completed our conflict-of-interest and client-identification checks;
- a written retainer agreement has been signed by both you and Karb Law; and
- any required retainer payment has been received.
Until every one of those steps is complete, Karb Law is not acting for you, is not responsible for your matter, is not monitoring your deadlines, and owes you no duty in respect of your file. If you have a limitation period, filing deadline or hearing date approaching, it remains entirely your responsibility until we confirm in writing that we act for you.
3. No confidentiality before you are a client
Information you send us before a retainer is signed — through a form, by email, or in a preliminary conversation — is not protected by professional privilege or confidentiality. Please do not send us confidential, privileged or highly sensitive material until we have confirmed in writing that we act for you. We may also be unable to act for you if we already act, or have acted, for another party with an interest adverse to yours.
4. No guarantee of any outcome
Nothing on this website or said to you by Karb Law is a promise, guarantee or prediction about the result of any application, hearing, appeal or other matter. Past results described on this site do not guarantee or predict a similar result in your case. Decisions are made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Immigration and Refugee Board, the courts and other independent decision-makers over whom we have no control.
5. Scope of our licence
Karb Law is a licensed paralegal practice. Angelina Shuster is a paralegal licensed by the Law Society of Ontario and is authorized to provide legal services within the scope permitted by that licence, and separately holds a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant licence. Content on this website is directed at matters in Ontario and Canadian immigration matters. Nothing here is advice about the law of any other province, territory or country, and we do not hold ourselves out as qualified to advise on foreign law.
6. Information may be out of date
Immigration and criminal law, government policies, programme criteria, fees and processing times change frequently and sometimes without notice. Content on this site reflects our understanding at the time of writing and may no longer be accurate when you read it. We are under no obligation to update any page, article or answer. Always verify current requirements with the responsible authority, or obtain current advice, before acting.
7. Third-party links and content
This website links to third-party sites, including government pages such as IRCC, the Immigration and Refugee Board and Justice Laws, and to third-party services such as our payment processor. Those sites are not controlled by Karb Law. We provide the links for convenience only and accept no responsibility for the content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices of any third-party site or service.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Karb Law, Angelina Shuster and our personnel, agents and contractors accept no liability for any loss or damage of any kind — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive loss, loss of opportunity, loss of status, or economic loss — arising out of or in connection with:
- your use of, or inability to use, this website;
- reliance on any information on this website or in any communication before a signed retainer;
- any error, omission, inaccuracy or outdated statement in that information;
- any interruption, failure, virus or security incident affecting this website; or
- any act taken, or not taken, by you before we confirmed in writing that we act for you.
This website is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
9. Communications and consent
By submitting a form, emailing, calling, or otherwise communicating with Karb Law, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy, and you consent to us contacting you at the email address or telephone number you provide. You may withdraw consent to further contact at any time by telling us.
Email and other electronic communication is not a secure medium. We cannot guarantee that messages sent to or from us will not be intercepted, delayed or corrupted, and we accept no liability for any such occurrence. Do not use email to send us urgent instructions or time-critical information.
10. Persons no longer associated with Karb Law
Karb Law is responsible only for the acts of its current personnel acting within the scope of their engagement. We accept no responsibility or liability for statements, advice, correspondence, services or conduct of any individual who is no longer associated with Karb Law, whether occurring before or after that association ended. If you are unsure whether a person acts for Karb Law, contact our office directly on (416) 835-6989 to confirm before relying on anything they tell you.
11. Payments
Payments made through our payments page are processed by a third-party payment processor. Making a payment does not by itself create a professional relationship and does not oblige us to accept your matter; where we cannot act, any amount received will be returned. Fees, disbursements and applicable taxes are governed by your signed retainer agreement.
12. Intellectual property
All content on this website, including text, articles, images, layout and design, is owned by Karb Law or used with permission and is protected by copyright. You may read and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not reproduce, republish, distribute or adapt any part of this website for any other purpose without our prior written consent.
13. Governing law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. You agree that the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to this website or these Terms.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may amend these Terms of Use at any time by posting an updated version on this page. The “last updated” date above shows the current version, and your continued use of this website after any change constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms.
15. Regulator
Karb Law is regulated by the Law Society of Ontario. Angelina Shuster’s licence and standing can be verified on the public Law Society of Ontario directory. Concerns about the conduct of a licensee may be directed to the Law Society.
